Description

THE RESERVES EXPERIENCE

MANCHESTER: THURSDAY OCTOBER 15TH, 2015

You are cordially invited to come along to The Reserves Experience on Thursday, October 15th 2015.

The Reserves Experience will take around an hour and a half to enjoy and will start at different times throughout the day between 9am and 3.30pm. However, as you will see from the timeslots, we are asking you to come along 15 minutes ahead of the start in order to register. In addition, we have allowed you some time at the end of The Reserves Experience to talk to some Reservists and ask questions. So the timeslots run for two hours in total.

So all you need to do is select a timeslot that’s convenient for you. Of course, it would be great if you could enjoy The Reserves Experience along with colleagues from your department or organisation, led by one of your senior representatives – in which case you would obviously all need to sign up to the same timeslot.

We very much look forward to seeing you there.

FAQs

1) Is there an age limit to being a Reservist?

The Reserve Forces are open to applications from a wide age group (see below) and indeed even higher age limits (up to 55) apply to applicants with specific specialist professional qualifications.

The current age limits for new Reservists’ applications are as follows:

  • Royal Naval Reserve: 16-40
  • Army Reserve: 18-49
  • Royal Air Force Reserve: 18-49

2) Are there any other restrictions to becoming a Reservist?

Everyone who joins the Reserve Forces has to meet some basic eligibility criteria. These may differ depending on which Service you want to join and the particular role you want to choose. As well as age, there are other eligibility criteria relating to nationality/residency, fitness/health, education/qualifications and criminal convictions. You will be able to find out more about eligibility at the Reserves Experience.

3) I can’t attend on that particular date. Will the Reserves Experience be run again?

There will be other Reserves Experience events happening across the country during the course of 2015. These are planned for 29th September in Cardiff, 27th October in Edinburgh and 29th October in Glasgow. In addition there will be Reservists at the upcoming Civil Service Live events in Newcastle, Manchester, Bristol, Edinburgh and London. So there are plenty of opportunities to find out more about Reserve service even if you can’t make the event in Cardiff.

4) I now can’t attend the time slot I selected. Can I amend it?

Yes, you can. This is very simple. Just log into EventBrite and you can cancel the booking for the time slot you are no longer able to attend and then book a new time slot.

5) Do I need to print off my EventBrite confirmation?

Yes, it would be very helpful if once you’ve registered on EventBrite, you print off your confirmation email and bring it with you to the event as this will speed up registration on the day.

6) Do I need to bring photo ID?

No, you will not have to bring photo ID to this event.

7) What is the best way to get to the venue?

By car – Parking is often difficult around the Manchester Town Hall complex. You may be able to find a space in one of the pay and display parking bays. There are a small number of spaces reserved for disabled drivers at the front of Central Library in St Peter’s Square. You must have a disabled parking permit to use one of these spaces. There are a number of car parks in Manchester city centre operated by NCP. Contact them on 0870 606 7050 or visit their website to find out where they are and current charges.

By public transport – There are bus stops in St Peter’s Square, Albert Square and on Princess Street. For more details about buses to the Town Hall please contact Greater Manchester Passenger Transport Executive on 0161 228 7811. If you are travelling to Manchester by train you can get a Metrolink tram from Piccadilly, Victoria and Deansgate train stations to St Peter’s Square, which is the nearest Metrolink station to the Town Hall complex.
